The NBA has a class system. You’ve got contenders, rebuilders, and a middle class between them. 

Every team is angling to join the contending class. The question is whether they’re hoping to do so now or later. Often, rebuilding teams will have to join the middle class before they ascend to the top. 

Perhaps that’s what the Detroit Pistons were hoping to do when they acquired Bojan Bogdanovic this summer. Unfortunately, things have not gone according to plan.

At 7-22, the Pistons have the worst record in the NBA. 

Meanwhile, Cade Cunningham is set to have season-ending surgery. With nothing left to play for, the Pistons ought to send Bogdanovic to a contender.
