Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal
This trade would have little to do with basketball for the Hawks. Instead, it would have everything to do with off-court issues.
There does seem to be some discord between Young and the organization. It’s been alleged that he’s not happy with head coach Nate McMillian. Moreover, it’s been said that the front office would like to see stronger leadership from Young.
Perhaps they’d just like to see him gone instead. The proposition that Young would leave already will feel outrageous to some. It does feel like yesterday that he was only a rookie. It wasn’t. Meanwhile, life moves faster than it ever has before in the NBA.
Just look at this summer’s Donovan Mitchell trade. Mitchell has been in the league for one season less than Young, and he managed to force his way out of Utah in exchange for four first-round picks.
