In essence, that’s when you trade a bunch of things for one big thing. When you have too many things, it can be a smart decision. 

In NBA terms, those “things” are players and draft picks. The NBA has a salary cap – you can only afford to pay so many players.

Eventually, you have to stop stacking high-end draft picks and simply consolidate.
