The modern NBA is all about floor spacing. Isn’t it? 

To be sure, spacing the floor is important in the three-point era. With teams jacking up an unprecedented number of threes, you’ll need to do the same to keep up. At the same time, spacing may not outweigh the importance of playmaking. 

Look at the Sacramento Kings. When they assembled the duo of De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, some thought that their combined floor spacing would prove problematic. At 13-9, they’ve silenced those doubts in 2022-23 so far. 

It certainly helps that Fox is having a career year beyond the arc. Still, he doesn’t strike fear in his opponent’s hearts as a shooter. Fox is still most effective as a driver.

Meanwhile, Sabonis doesn’t shoot at all – and yet, this Kings offense has been potent at times.
