As the 2022-23 NBA season continues to move forward quickly, teams are starting to look at how they can improve their rosters to make a playoff run. One of those teams is the Miami Heat, who could use a big move to get their season back on track, and they have been mentioned in a lot of NBA rumors. Could they consider trying to make a trade with the Sacramento Kings for veteran forward Harrison Barnes?
Barnes has been rumored to be a trade candidate over the last couple of years. With the Kings playing better this season, they may not opt to move him. However, for the right price, he likely would be available.
For the Heat, adding a versatile forward like Barnes would be a big step in the right direction. He would fit nicely alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo and would provide an extra scoring punch for Miami.
With that being said, how could the Heat pull off a trade with the Kings for Barnes? Our own James Piercey came up with an intriguing trade idea to make it happen.
The Trade Idea
Sacramento Kings Receive: G/F Caleb Martin, G/F Duncan Robinson
Miami Heat Receive: F Harrison Barnes, C Alex Len
Taking a look at this deal on the outside looking in, the Kings may want more attached to this move. But, they would also add an elite shooter in Duncan Robinson and a solid role player in Martin. Giving up Barnes would be tough, but if the Heat added in a pick it might be too good of a deal to pass on.
On the other hand, the Heat would jump at the opportunity to make this trade. Harrison Barnes would be the kind of piece that could take them over the top in the Eastern Conference and into serious contention. Getting rid of Robinson would not hurt them, as they have a ton of depth from a shooting perspective already.
Expect to continue hearing a ton of NBA rumors about both of these teams as the trade deadline continues to draw closer. For now, this could be a very intriguing option for both the Heat and Kings to consider.
