Dallas Mavericks Pair Luka Doncic, DeMar DeRozan
Dallas Mavericks Receive: G/F DeMar DeRozan
Chicago Bulls Receive: F Davis Bertans, C Dwight Powell, 2025 First-Round Pick (DAL), 2026 First-Round Pick (Swap – DAL)
In light of DeRozan’s play in Chicago, some may expect that he’d have more trade value than this.
We won’t claim to be perfect. At the same time, there are factors limiting DeRozan’s value beyond his raw counting stats. He’s a mediocre defender at best, a subpar floor spacer, and perhaps most importantly, he’s 33. If Bulls fans are hoping for a king’s ransom, they may be disappointed.
This is still a solid return. A first-round pick and a swap is a solid value for a player with every limitation we just described. Moreover, Powell is on an expiring contract – the Bulls get significant cap relief with this deal.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks get a much-needed secondary ball-handler. This is a no-brainer on their end – they need another player who commands defensive attention alongside Luka Doncic.

If the Bulls are selling, the Dallas Mavericks ought to be buying. At the same time, if the Bulls are really tearing it down, it wouldn’t be their most prized asset.
That would be Zach LaVine.
