Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal
The Hawks would struggle to sign off on this too. After all, Young is supposed to be their franchise player.
In fact, they just signed Dejounte Murray to cover for Young’s questionable perimeter defence. On the other hand, it’s fair to question whether the two were ever a good pairing in the first place. Murray’s inability to shoot means that he doesn’t entirely complement Young when he’s got the ball.
By contrast, Ingram and Murray should be a clean fit. Ingram is capable both on and off the ball. Between those two, and some quality players already on the roster, the Hawks would have a new nucleus that should be ready to compete.
Just as significantly, they’d have some extremely valuable draft capital to go with it. The Lakers may be trending away from the lottery this year, but they’ll be a year older in 2023-24. Who knows where this pick could land?
