Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal

Frankly, this is a no-brainer for the Lakers.

Yes, they’re giving up valuable draft capital. That counts for something. Forget about it. This team has LeBron James on it, and this deal has them acquiring Rudy Gobert.

Some may protest that Gobert doesn’t space the floor either. That’s fine. James can work with vertical spacing. In fact, we saw his Lakers win the 2019-20 NBA title with Anthony Davis playing the four alongside Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee.

The problems seem to arise when James shares the floor with a perimeter player who can’t shoot.
