Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
The Heat benefit from this deal in a couple of ways.
Firstly, this is a win-now talent upgrade. Wood is a more dynamic offensive player than Robinson. The latter is a shooting specialist, whereas Wood spaces the floor and provides excellent pick-and-roll finishing.
Secondly, Wood is on an expiring contract. If the Heat can’t make it work with him, they still get some cap relief here – after all, Robinson is still on contract for three years after this season.
Wood’s fit alongside Bam Adebayo is especially intriguing. Adebayo covers so much ground on defense that Wood’s limitations would be minimized next to him.

Meanwhile, Wood’s ability to space the floor would make up for Adebayo’s deficiency in that area.
