Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal 

This would not be an easy decision for the Heat to make. We know this. 

That doesn’t mean it’s not the right move. Plenty of observers around the NBA are questioning whether this core has hit a ceiling. If the Heat have the same questions, it may be time to move on. 

If so, this deal should be a good way to help them do it. They’re getting three first-round picks in exchange for an aging veteran here. That’s good value in a vacuum. 

It’s especially good in light of the 2023 draft. This class is widely regarded as special. After this deal, the Heat would have three selections in it.

That may allow them to trade up if there’s a prospect they especially like.
