Not too long ago, acquiring Davis would not have been seen as a win-now move. 

Of course, it was when the Lakers landed him. On the Pelicans, Davis was an MVP candidate. When the Lakers won the 2019-20 NBA title, he was playing like one as well. 

Sadly, injuries have impacted the last couple of years of his career significantly.

In fact, it had reached a point where his viability as a superstar contributor moving forward had come into question.
