Acquiring LaVine won’t make the Knicks instant contenders. Of course, acquiring Mitchell would not have either.
That isn’t the point here. The Knicks need to work their way back to relevance. Acquiring a player of LaVine’s caliber could be the first step toward doing so.
Plus, it’ll make the Knicks a competitive team – and a fun one. Something about LaVine’s game belongs on the league’s biggest stage. His aerial wizardry would be right at home in the Garden.
Moreover, he and Julius Randle should form a pretty solid one-two punch on offense. The attention they daw should benefit RJ Barrett as well.
