Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
The Heat do this deal to rebuild. Sort of. More accurately, they do it to see what happens.
After all, a core of Bam Adebayo, Draymond Green, and Tyler Herro may win games. In particular, that front-court combination is scary. The Heat would have assembled, arguably, the two most versatile defenders in the NBA.
At the same time, without Butler, this team is light on offensive creation. They may get markedly worse from making this deal. That would be OK too.
After all, in Adebayo and Herro, they have two-star players under 25. Meanwhile, they’d have Kuminga and a sudden injection of draft capital moving forward. Whether the Heat are rebuilding or retooling, this deal helps them.
