Perhaps Collins plays at the 5. Alternatively, maybe the Knicks bump Randle down to the 3. It doesn’t matter – the Knicks should be content to acquire the best player in this trade. 

Besides, Randle is not a player you base personnel decisions around. He’s talented, but if the Knicks see him as a franchise player, they’ve got deeper problems than any acquisition could solve. 

If the two can’t co-exist, the Knicks should trade whichever one they get a better return for. This is a pure talent upgrade for New York.

They should capitalize on the opportunity to land a player as good as Collins. Fit may matter – but talent comes first.
