Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
The Jazz do this deal because they’re good, and they want to get better.
Adding Turner would help them do so. In fact, he’s a direct upgrade from Olynyk. Like the Canadian veteran, he spaces the floor – but he also offers vastly superior rim protection.
In fact, Turner would make for an excellent defensive pairing alongside Jarred Vanderbilt. His endless motor would make him a perfect free safety alongside Turner. With Lauri Markkanen at the 3, the Jazz would have a long, unique frontcourt setup.
Again – this was not the plan for Utah. So what? They’d still have all the other draft picks they received for Rudy Gobet and Donovan Mitchell this summer following this deal.
