Lakers Still Eyeing Trade For Pistons’ Bojan Bogdanovic

Bojan Bogdanovic, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Lakers, NBA Trade Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

Plenty of people thought that the 2022-23 NBA season would be a tough one for the Los Angeles Lakers after they were unable to truly reshape their roster in the offseason.

However, being tied for the fewest wins in the NBA along with the Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets level poor is even worse than most people thought it would be.

The Lakers’ roster just isn’t very good and they have once again failed to put a cohesive unit around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. After a strong start on the defensive end, their production is beginning to slip on that end of the court, which is resulting in some truly disastrous results as the offense has been abysmal.

Los Angeles is second to last in the NBA in offensive rating as they struggle to shoot the ball. They are the worst 3-point shooting team in the NBA currently, making a ghastly 30.7 percent on the season.

The front office needs to decide what direction to go in and quickly because this season is quickly getting away from the Lakers. If they decide they want to push all their chips into the middle and go all-in, a player that they could target is Bojan Bogdanovic.

Yes, the same Bogdanovic that was traded right before the regular season to the Detroit Pistons from the Utah Jazz. Los Angeles was involved in some trade talks for him before that deal was made and they haven’t stopped their pursuit of him.

According to Jake Fischer on his “Please Don’t Aggregate This” podcast, the Lakers are one of many teams to check in with the Pistons about a Bogdanovic trade. He signed an extension with Detroit shortly after the trade was completed, but that may only increase his trade value along with how well he is playing thus far this season.

“He’s a player that I think a lot of winning teams, a team looking to get to the second round that’s never gotten there or a team that wants to push their way to really be a title threat (would want)… Phoenix was at the top of everyone’s list in terms of suitors that have capital to pay in addition to talent and the salaries that made sense… The Lakers were obviously involved. I got a list of other teams that I think have called and contacted, but nothing too crazy at this point in terms of actual conversations that are still ongoing. I do know Detroit is getting calls on him just like any team (when) we’re getting close to the Dec. 15 area where a lot of players who signed (in free agency last summer) are going to be eligible (to be traded). That’s kind of the unofficial start of the trade window. But also he’s playing really well for this team right now.”

Bogdanovic is currently averaging a career-high 20.5 points per game and knocking down 41.9 percent of his 3-point attempts. That is exactly the kind of production that the Lakers need as he would provide a strong third option that can play off of James and Davis with his floor spacing ability.

3-point shooting is atop the team’s needs, which is why they have also been linked to Buddy Hield and Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers.

Something has to give eventually as the Lakers could cash in on Russell Westbrook’s hot start, which may help save them from needing to attach draft capital in any trade that he is a part of.
