Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal 

We already told you why the Celtics do this deal. Simply put, they do it to add Jakob Poeltl. 

He is, if you haven’t noticed, really good. In fact, he’s developed into one of the best defensive big men in the NBA. 

In all reality, the question here is whether Poeltl can play with Williams III. After all, the Celtics will be expecting him back. The answer is complicated. The two could be a dominant pairing on defense, but the spacing between them will suffer. 

The Celtics could still play them for short bursts. Moreover, rotations tend to shrink in the playoffs.

Even if this deal helps the Celtics secure a higher seed, and Poeltl eventually sits for a playoff run, it could be worth their while.
