Why The Sacramento Kings Do The Deal
For the Kings, this deal is about roster balance.
Harrison Barnes remains a good player. At this point, rookie Keegan Murray is outplaying him. Meanwhile, they are remarkably similar players. They’re both 4s who can create their own shot, space the floor, and defend fairly well.
By contrast, Caleb Martin is a purer 3, and a purer 3-and-D wing. He’d fill a void this Kings team needs to fill to make a playoff run. Realistically, he’s the main draw for the Kings in this deal.
At the same time, they could find some minutes for Duncan Robinson, too. Yes, his defensive limitations make him a difficult player to use in the playoffs. That’s fine.

If we’re being realistic, the Kings only need to make the playoffs this year. Robinson’s floor spacing could be helpful in that regard.
Does this deal help the Heat meet their loftier expectations?
