Why The Houston Rockets Do The Deal
Compared to other tanking teams, the Rockets are in a unique position.
After all, this team owes two first-round picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder between 2024 and 2026. In other words, this is the last season in which they’ll have any incentive to lose.
With that in mind, they may not want to rush to make this trade. Acquiring Adebayo may result in an increased win total. With that said, they do have a head start on the race to the bottom. If they head into the trade deadline with a similar win percentage, they could make a win-now move and still finish the year near the bottom of the standings.
Some Rockets fans will protest this deal on account of Alperen Sengun. To be sure, the Turkish sophomore is immensely talented.

At the same time, there are questions about whether he’ll ever be able to hold up on the defensive end of the floor. Adebayo is elite in that area and provides a fair amount of the playmaking the Rockets get from Sengun.
Should the Heat really move such a player?
