Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal 

The Suns are taking a risk here. Acquiring a young player who’s underperformed is a bold move for a contender. 

At the same time, White doesn’t have a high bar to clear here. He only needs to outperform Cameron Payne to be the lead guard on the Suns’ bench. Given that he’s a relatively recent lottery pick, he should have the talent to do so. 

Meanwhile, Jones Jr. isn’t a complete throw-in. He’s an athletic wing who plays solid defense. He’s a good placeholder for Johnson until he returns, and should be able to find some time in this rotation when he does. 

Finally, the Suns are getting all of that for absolutely nothing. Crowder has refused to suit up for them this year. With that in mind, this is a high-value return for the veteran wing.
