Obviously, you’d like to be among the best teams in the NBA. With that said, that isn’t always an option. Only so many teams can realistically contend for the NBA title in a given season.
If you’re not in contention, it’s typically better to be near the bottom of the league’s standings. After all, the lottery system rewards losing. Teams at the bottom put themselves in a position to land the best young talent entering the league.
The Miami Heat and New York Knicks are two squads that find themselves near the middle of the standings.

However, many would have predicted this would be where the Knicks would end up. The Heat, on the other hand, were supposed to be contenders.
