Why The Houston Rockets Do The Deal
It’s difficult to say exactly how much the Rockets value Sengun.
On the one hand, this team’s offense occasionally runs through him. Sengun is among the best post-up scorers in the NBA, and he’s one of the best passing bigs in the league too. Yet, he doesn’t always start for this team, either.
In fact, he started the year on the bench in favor of Bruno Fernando. Fernando is a solid player, but he’s not seen as a potential star. The Rockets may be concerned about Sengun’s athletic limitations, and how they impact his play on the defensive end of the floor.
Jonathan Kuminga has the athletic tools to be a quality defender. He hasn’t looked great on the Warriors so far, but it’s possible that he’d thrive on a rebuilding team who could afford to give him a longer leash. Moreover, he’d be reuniting with G-League Ignite teammate Jalen Green.
