Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal 

In a sense, Davis is little more than a supercharged version of Horford. 

They’re both versatile defensive bigs who can protect the rim and defend in space. Moreover, they’re both good inside scorers. Davis is simply younger, and much more effective in terms of all of those abilities. 

If the Celtics have any reservations here, they’ll pertain to Davis’ fit alongside Robert Williams III. He’s out with an injury, but they’ll be a questionable fit when he returns. After all, Williams III is a non-shooter, and Horford is a better floor spacer than Davis. 

Those feel like inconsequential concerns. Davis is a significant upgrade over Horford. Furthermore, he’s a willing enough shooter that the two ought to be able to co-exist for stretches.
