Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal
The Wizards have a couple of reasons to pull the trigger on this one.
Firstly: Beal is in decline. He hasn’t looked like the star off-guard we once knew for at least a couple of seasons. Still, some may suggest that two first-round picks and two swaps are a low-value return for him.
Ordinarily, perhaps. With that said, these aren’t just any old first-round picks. This Lakers organization almost certainly won’t be able to sustain success this far into the future – these picks could be among the most valuable assets in the NBA.
What’s more, this deal helps the Wizards bottom out. At 5-6, they’re on a fast track to another mediocre season. It would be better to have a horrible one.

Following this deal, they could easily be welcoming Victor Wembanyama into the fold ahead of the 2023-24 season.
If they can endure one bad season, patience should be a virtue for them.
