Off to one of the worst starts in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers are searching high and low to find a way to turn things around this season. There are no obvious answers to accomplishing that as Rob Pelinka has put the team in a bad position with some of the moves that he has made the last two offseasons.
The only way for the team to climb out of the doldrums is by making a trade, but that is easier said than done. Los Angeles doesn’t have many assets outside of their 2027 and 2029 first-round picks, which every team has been asking for in trade talks. To this point, they have been hesitant to part ways with those selections and rightfully so.
This is a franchise that is currently rudderless, moving forward without a plan. Pelinka and LeBron James were reportedly on the same page about doing whatever it took to build a contending team but Pelinka has fallen woefully short in that regard.
Given the struggles of the team, there have been some rumors about the possibility of trading away one of their stars. Anthony Davis has been mentioned in some trade rumors, but they seem to be just that; rumors.

According to Chris Haynes on Bleacher Report, Davis trade talks have been prevalent on social media but not within the Lakers’ organization. Right now, trading the big man is not something Los Angeles is considering.
“And while it’s been a talking point on social media, the Lakers are not considering trading Davis, according to sources. For any dialogue of that nature to occur, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul would have received calls from interested teams inquiring if his client would agree to an extension if they traded for him. Those conversations have not taken place, sources say.”
That should quiet some of the trade talks for now, but they are bound to pick up again sometime soon. The Lakers don’t currently have a path to improving with their current roster and will have to figure something out to become more competitive.

As long as James and Davis are on the roster and healthy, this is a team that should be able to compete with anyone. That has not been the case as the roster is mismatched and poorly constructed around them, full of ill-fitting players whose skill sets don’t mesh well.
