No, Bamba isn’t the most reliable floor spacer. That’s another reason his career has gone south. Still, his assignment needs to check him from distance. Bamba draws opposing big men out of the paint. That should still hold value for the Lakers. 

Furthermore, Bamba may be somewhat immobile, but he is a good drop coverage rim protector. His ability to swat away shots will hold particular value alongside Anthony Davis.

Landing Bamba allows the Lakers to let Davis resume freelancing at the 4 spot.
