Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal
Towns may be the second most important player on the Timberwolves. Still, nobody would deny that they should be prioritizing Anthony Edwards right now.
At the moment, Edwards may not feel prioritized. For example, he hasn’t been able to dunk a basketball in the 2022-23 season to date. The paint is regularly clogged with the Wolves running two big men in the frontcourt.
The Wolves brought Gobert on board to cover for Towns’ poor interior defense. Fair. In the process of doing so, they built a roster that doesn’t optimize their most promising young player. This deal may be an admission of error, but the Wolves would do well to fix their mistake early.
This trade may not make them better in 2022-23. At the same time, it should make for a more coherent team concept. The offense would run through Edwards entirely.

Meanwhile, the addition of Dort means they’d now have two elite defenders in the starting lineup between him and Gobert. Finally, Giddy is a born facilitator who should complement Edwards’ natural scoring instincts.
Should the Thunder part with them both, along with a surplus of draft capital, just to land Towns?
