Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal
If the Raptors are set on getting playmaking from each position, they’ll like this deal.
After all, Hartenstein has emerged as one of the better passing big men in the NBA. He’s not a ball-handler like Siakam, but he will keep the ball movement flowing in Toronto. Moreover, he certainly won’t compromise the depth they use to overwhelm opponents, either.
Acquiring him doesn’t require the Raptors to abandon their brand of basketball, either. Realistically, they could start him alongside Siakam at the 4 and Scottie Barnes at the 3, and still give Siakam ample run at the 5 in small-ball looks.
Meanwhile, Toppin feels like a player the Raptors would like. He’s a defensive wing with ball-handling abilities in his own right.
