Why The Sacramento Kings Do The Deal
It would be an overstatement to say the Kings need an injection of three-point shooting. Still, some improvement in that category could go a long way.
As it stands, this team is 5th in the league in attempts per game – and 14th in three-point percentage. Meanwhile, there may be a functional explanation for that discrepancy. De’Aaron Fox is having a career season from deep, but he’s not generally respected as a floor spacer. On the other hand, Domantas Sabonis is effectively a non-shooter.
If the Kings intend on launching so many triples, they’d do well to put better floor spacers around their two stars. Enter Doug McDermott. In fact, he’s one of the most reliable floor spacers in the NBA.
Meanwhile, the Kings are only parting with two reserves to land McDermott. Granted, with Keegan Murray and Harrison Barnes in the starting lineup, McDermott would probably be contained to the second unit as well.
