Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal 

This wouldn’t be the first time Durant was linked to the Knicks. 

Back when he and Kyrie Irving signed with the Nets, many expected them to join New York’s other teams. Obviously, they did not. Should the Knicks correct the course of history? 

Following this deal, the Knicks would obviously improve. Some will suggest that a nucleus of Durant, Jalen Brunson, and RJ Barrett isn’t enough to win an NBA title. In all likelihood, they’re correct. 

Still, this deal looks better when viewed as a two-year plan for New York. If they could land Durant, and then improve the team through free agency or one more trade, they could build an instant contender.

Given that they play in the biggest market in the NBA, that should be achievable. 

If they can do so, the Knicks can finally make the rumors that they’re building a contender true.
