Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
Klay Thompson is not the player that he used to be. We figure we might as well start there. If he was performing at his peak levels, this trade wouldn’t be realistic.
No, that wasn’t a typo. The reason that Klay would be available is the same reason that the Warriors would deal him. Saying goodbye to a staple of their dynasty wouldn’t be easy, but it could be the right move.
It could also allow them to retain Green. Even while he seems to be feeding with teammate Jordan Poole, it’s fair to say Green contributes more than this version of Thompson. Moving the latter may be the lesser of two evils.
Meanwhile, the Warriors get a good return here. Joe Harris replicates much of the spacing they’ve come to expect from Thompson.

Royce O’Neale is a great 3-and-D wing who can plug into any situation. Finally, even Patty Mills should be a serviceable reserve point guard for this team.
If nothing else, at least the Warriors are switching things up here.
