Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal 

If the Spurs intended on tanking this season, they sure are doing a poor job of it. 

Some of that owes to coaching. Greg Popovich is one of the best coaches in the history of the NBA. Losing is not part of his DNA. 

On the other hand, it also owes to the roster. Many of the Spurs’ contributors are too young for a rebuilding team to part with. On the other hand, at 27, Poeltl is a perfect trade candidate. 

By contrast, Wiseman hasn’t proven much in terms of his ability to play winning basketball yet. On the other hand, his upside remains.

That makes him the perfect target for the Spurs to acquire. This deal allows them to land closer to the bottom of the standings, and still acquire a player with potential.
