Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
This deal would not be very characteristic of the Heat. That doesn’t mean it isn’t the right call.
For starters, the Heat are far enough behind in the standings that they could reasonably join the race for Victor Wembanyama this year. They could make this trade, ship Jimmy Butler elsewhere, and suddenly have a head start on a strong rebuild.
Of course, they don’t have to take such drastic measures either. This could be a soft reset. The Heat could make this deal, and use the package they’re receiving to trade for another star down the road.
Either way, something doesn’t feel right with this team in 2022-23. Kyle Lowry appears to have finally aged out of his prime, and the Heat are suffering.
