Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal
In a word: yes.
The Celtics built their 2021-22 Finals run on the back of, among other things, frontcourt versatility. Here’s the question: can a team have too much versatility?
Of course it can’t! Small ball lineups featuring Washington and Williams sharing the frontcourt could be lethal.
Meanwhile, if you plug Jayson Tatum at the 3, Jaylen Brown at the 2, and Marcus Smart at the 1 into those formations, they should be able to switch everything. There is little downside in having both Washington and Williams.

If there’s any, it’s that one may not be satisfied with their minutes. That’s a trade-off the Celtics should make. This deal has them upgrading their roster coming off of a Finals appearance, and expending no player that’s projected to be part of their rotation this year in the process.
That’s a deal that any team in their position has to take. Is this a good move for the Hornets?
