The Detroit Pistons surprised the entire NBA world when they won the Bojan Bogdanovic sweepstakes. Detroit acquired him from the Utah Jazz, beating out numerous contenders and did it without having to surrender any draft capital. All it cost the Pistons to land Bogdanovic was Kelly Olynyk and Saben Lee.
Heading into the final season of his contract, there were discussions about what the Pistons would do. They wanted to sign him to an extension to ensure that he would remain in Detroit for the foreseeable future and not test free agency in the summer of 2023 and that is exactly what they did.
The Pistons and Bogdanovic agreed to a two-year, $39.1 million extension, locking him into a contract through 2025. This is a great deal for both sides, as Detroit could still opt to trade Bogdanovic if they receive an offer that is too good to refuse.
An interesting caveat to this deal is that the second year on the extension is only partially guaranteed. According to James L. Edwards of The Athletic, the second year carries only $2 million in guarantees.
Because of the terms of his extension, Bogdanovic isn’t subjected to the restrictions players normally would be as an extend-and-trade qualifier. That kind of extension wasn’t available to Bogdanovic yet as he was acquired by the Pistons too recently, but it is a moot point as he agreed to the two-year deal.

His average salary, given his skill set, could be seen as a favorable one heading into the future. Sharpshooters around the league can easily clear $20 million per season, especially with the salary cap expected to continue rising. Locking him into that number, despite being 33 years old right now, makes him a valuable piece.
Thus far this season Bogdanovic is averaging 22.7 points per game, which would easily be a career-high should he be able to sustain it. He is knocking down a scorching 50.9 percent of his 3-point attempts, providing the Pistons with the kind of floor spacing they have been desperate for.

While the wins haven’t followed yet, he is playing about as well as Detroit could have hoped for thus far.
