Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal
The Raptors could use a center. That’s the simple, superficial justification for this trade on their end.
In theory, Robinson could be exactly the type of center they need. When he’s playing well, he’s an outstanding rim protector and lob finisher.
It’s not unusual for Robinson to shoot 70% from the field, and if you try to drive when he’s in the paint, he’s likely to make that a low-percentage shot as well.
On the other hand, Robinson isn’t perfect. Again, he’s prone to foul trouble. Moreover, he’s an efficient pick-and-roll finisher, but he’s otherwise fairly limited on offense. In a vacuum, he’s not worth Anunoby on his own.

That’s why the Raptors are getting a first-round pick by way of Dallas as well. All told, this deal has them getting equal value for Anunoby and a player at a position of need in the process.
