Charlotte Hornets

Charlotte Hornets Receive:  G Russell Westbrook, 2027 First-Round Pick (LAL), 2029 First-Round Pick (LAL)
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: F Gordon Hayward, G Terry Rozier

Consider this the dark horse package.

Unlike the first two deals, this one doesn’t dominate the rumor mill. We’re not the first to suggest it (we don’t think), but it’s certainly less discussed than the others.

Don’t mistake that for meaning it doesn’t make sense. In reality, it makes plenty for both sides. For the Lakers, they’re landing the most dynamic playmaker listed in any of these return packages in Hayward. He’ll make for a great third offensive option behind James and Anthony Davis.

Meanwhile, Rozier won’t be far behind either. He’d instantly become the best scoring guard on this roster. All told, this trade would make the Lakers significantly stronger in 2022-23.

It will not do the same for the Charlotte Hornets. In fact, its likely to have the opposite effect. Still, it could benefit them in the long run. After losing Miles Bridges this summer, the Hornets were likely to take a step back in 2022-23 anyway.
