The Boston Celtics (1-0) and Miami Heat (0-1) will face off in part of Friday’s NBA action.

In their season opener, the Celtics achieved a 126-117 win against the Philadelphia 76ers. Jayson Tatum and Brown each scored 35 points while combining to go 27-44 from the floor. It was the first game of interim head coach Joe Mazulla’s tenure.

“It was a proud moment, I think starting with the Bill Russell ceremony and just talking to the team about the legacy he left on and off the court and the responsibility we carry to be able to hold that and build our own legacy,” Mazzulla said. “We picked up right where we left off.

“I pride myself in the Boston fans and the city of Boston, and when they’re cheering for you, it means you’re doing something right.”

The Heat came up short 116-108 against the short-handed Chicago Bulls in their season opener. DeMar DeRozan went off for 37 points to lead the way with Zach LaVine and Lonzo Ball sidelined. Miami lost despite receiving 20-point performances from Jimmy Butler (24), Tyler Herro (23), and Max Strus (22).

“It’s the first game of the year. We’re just still trying to figure out things,” Strus said. “We’ll watch the film and get better from it.”
