Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal 

In a sense, an opportunity may have passed the Jazz. 

Before, they may have gotten a pair of first-round picks from the Lakers. That was before they traded Bojan Bogdanovic to the Pistons.

Frankly, moving him for Olynyk and Saben Lee (who they’ve sinned released) remains one of the more puzzling moves of the offseason. 

The Jazz can’t afford to dwell on it. This team should still be shopping veterans in exchange for draft capital wherever they can. This Lakers pick is one of the most valuable assets in the NBA – even if they’re not getting the 2029 pick, this is a good deal for the Jazz.

They don’t need to worry about what they’ll do with Westbrook this year either. In all likelihood, they’ll either sit him for the year or buy him out. Either way, they’re doing this deal for the pick.
