San Antonio Spurs Receive: G/F Evan Fournier, 2023 First-Round Pick (DAL via NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: G/F Josh Richardson
Of course, it’s hard to discuss the upcoming draft without discussing “tanking”. Like it or not, it’s a strategy we expect to see many teams use in 2022-23.
With that in mind, sometimes, there’s a tendency to think it’s the only route to acquiring talent. Tanking allows you to land a player on his rookie contract and see how he develops. It’s not only a route to talent – it’s a route to cost-controlled talent.
Still, there are plenty of avenues that can lead to landing good NBA players. The trade market is always open, and almost every season, a star player or two demands their way into it.
The Knicks seem well aware of that fact. They haven’t had a lot of great seasons in recent years, but they do have an impressive collection of tradeable contracts and draft capital.
