Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
Granted, Vucevic may not be the type of big man many would prefer the Hornets to land.
Vucevic isn’t much of a rim protector. Given the Hornets’ ghastly defense in 2022-23, that could be a problem. Moreover, he’s not much of a pick-and-roll finisher to pair with Ball, either.
By contrast, the recently drafted Mark Williams is both of those things. This deal gives the Hornets some flexibility at the 5 spot. They can start the more offensively gifted Vucevic, and lean on Williams in matchups that call for him. In doing so, the Hornets can collect data on which look is better for them.
Meanwhile, White could be a quality sixth man for the Hornets. He’s fallen short of pre-draft expectations throughout his career so far, but he’s still young enough to make good on them.
