The Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls will kick off their 2022-23 NBA season with a matchup against each other on Wednesday night.

Both teams are looking to make some noise in the Eastern Conference, but after relatively quiet offseasons, there are some concerns that both of them have been passed by some of their competitors.

The Heat finished last season as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, winning 53 games. The Bulls started hot, but injuries eventually caught up with them, as they finished in sixth place with 46 victories.

Chicago and Miami faced off four times last season and the Heat swept the series, something that the Bulls will look to change this season. The teams have faced off two previous times in season openers, with each having one victory.

Opening night could be a long one for the Bulls. Not only are they on the road against a very good Heat team, but they are also going into it shorthanded. They will be without their starting backcourt of Lonzo Ball and Zach LaVine, putting them behind the eight-ball to kick the NBA season off. That will put a lot of pressure on DeMar DeRozan to carry the offense and Nikola Vucevic will have added opportunities as well.

Miami is expected to change up their rotation, as the reigning Sixth Man of the Year, Tyler Herro, is expected to step into the starting rotation in favor of Max Strus and Duncan Robinson. How will this impact the team’s second unit and the cohesiveness of the starting five?

Erik Spoelstra is one of the best in the business and should be able to figure things out. The one issue they have heading into the season, which may not hurt them tonight given the Bulls’ lineup, is power forward. Can Caleb Martin replicate what P.J. Tucker brought to the team, or will they have to make a move to fill the power forward void?
