Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal
Realistically, this isn’t a deal the Raptors should make tomorrow. It is, on the other hand, something they ought to keep an eye on.
If their wing-heavy rotation gets hot early, they might as well extend the experiment. Even if it’s lukewarm, they could pursue a cheaper big at a lower cost. With that said, if it becomes apparent that they need a traditional big, Ayton could be a perfect target.
In fact, by making this deal, the Raptors could be the vanguard of big ball. Here’s a question: why can’t OG Anunoby play off-guard full-time? Dare we dream?
After all, a lineup of Ayton, Pascal Siakam, Scottie Barnes, Anunoby and Fred VanVleet could overwhelm opponents with size.

Swap out VanVleet for the 6’9 Delano Banton, and suddenly, the Raptors would be likely to enjoy a significant size advantage at every position. Ironically, the Raptor could land a traditional player here and defy tradition in the process.
