The 2022 offseason was a tumultuous one for the Charlotte Hornets. There isn’t a franchise in the NBA that had as bad of an offseason as they did, as nothing went right in Buzz City.
Despite having a 10-game increase in victories during the 2021-22 campaign, the team was blown out in the NBA Play-In Tournament for the second consecutive year. As a result, James Borrego was fired as head coach.
Kenny Atkinson was pegged as his replacement, but less than a week after being named Borrego’s replacement, Atkinson decided not to take the job. Steve Clifford was hired instead to take over.
Roster-wise, Charlotte had more players arrested than they signed. Miles Bridges was charged with felony domestic violence and child abuse. Montrezl Harrell was arrested on a marijuana charge in Kentucky but has since signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. Now, another player has been arrested.
LATEST NBA NEWS & RUMORS: James Bouknight & Charlotte Hornets Updates
2021 first-round pick James Bouknight has been arrested for what is related to a DUI and other charges. Kyle Bailey of Sports Radio WFNZ shared the update.
The Charlotte Hornets released a statement, saying “We are aware of the incident involving James Bouknight and are in the process of gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time.”
This is about as bad of an offseason as any franchise has had in recent history. This is another distraction that the Hornets do not need as things were already trending in the wrong direction for the franchise.
LATEST NBA NEWS & RUMORS: James Bouknight & Charlotte Hornets Updates
Charlotte didn’t bring in a single player from outside the organization in free agency except for Dennis Smith Jr., who will have an increased role at the start of the season with the ankle injury to LaMelo Ball.
After a tough rookie season, Bouknight’s second season out of UConn isn’t off to any better of a start. He had a chance to break into the rotation this season, but will once again be behind the eight-ball for a self-inflicted wound that could have been easily avoided.
