The Memphis Grizzlies have done an excellent job of not only turning things around in recent NBA seasons but laying the foundation for what should be a very successful future. They worked out a supermax rookie extension with point guard Ja Morant earlier this offseason and with just a few hours until the deadline, they completed another deal.

The Grizzlies agreed to a four-year, $52 million extension with forward Brandon Clarke. The announcement came from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN via Priority Sports agents Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman.

Clarke has become an integral part of the Grizzlies’ rotation as a key bench player. Despite averaging only 19.5 minutes per game during the regular season, he was top-five in the NBA in second-chance points, paint points and offensive rebounds. His efficiency was eye-popping, as he averaged 10.4 points per game despite taking only seven field goal attempts as he made 64.4 percent of his shots.

In the postseason, Clarke’s numbers were just as consistent with a few extra minutes per game. He averaged 12.3 points to go along with 6.9 rebounds, 3.1 of which were on the offensive glass, to go along with 2.0 assists in 24.7 minutes per game.

The offensive rebounding numbers in the postseason were the most for anyone that played in a minimum of 10 playoff games according to ESPN Stats & Info. Clarke brings excellent energy and a high level of effort every time that he steps on the court, which is infectious for his teammates.

Over the past two years, Memphis has been hard at work keeping together its core. Clarke is the fourth player that they have signed to an extension, joining Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Steven Adams.

With Jackson sidelined to begin the season, Clarke could see even more minutes in the first few weeks until he is healthy enough to return. Despite the team bringing in three rookies who all play power forward, Clarke should continue seeing consistent minutes as one of the first big men off the bench.
