Why The Milwaukee Bucks Do The Deal
This is a gamble for the Bucks. Acquiring a player like Wood always is.
Throughout his tenure in Houston, many fans blamed his shortcomings on the environment. Fair enough. It’s possible that on a losing team, Wood saw an offense that was his for the taking.
At the same time, he may see a more prominent role for himself in Dallas than the organization does as well. After Luka Doncic, the Mavericks have several players who are roughly on Wood’s level. Call us crazy, but we’re doubtful that he sees it the same way.
On the other hand, even Wood would have to concede that the pecking order in Milwaukee is established. Behind Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday, he’d have to fill a lower usage role.
Specifically, Wood should be catching lobs, shooting threes, and otherwise, focusing on improving his defense.

If he could, his fit with Antetokounmpo could be perfect. His elite defense would offset Wood’s relatively poor stopping ability. Meanwhile, Giannis has never played alongside a big with as reliable a three-point shot as Wood’s. Perhaps the Bucks would keep Lopez, and use Wood as a sixth man – and he’ll have to live with it.
