The Golden State Warriors found themselves in plenty of NBA headlines earlier this week but for none of the right reasons. There was a dust-up at their practice between Jordan Poole and Draymond Green that turned physical.

A heated exchange escalated as Green approached Poole and the two players went chest-to-chest with each other. After Poole shoved Green away, Green retaliated by throwing a punch and connecting with Poole.

Training camp dustups are nothing new as things can get pretty heated as the livelihood of players is on the line. Poole and Green are known to verbally joust with each other regularly, but it was clear that Green crossed a line this time.

Immediately following the story leaking, questions arose as to how the Warriors would handle things. Would Green face a suspension or a fine for his actions?

Speaking Thursday, general manager Bob Meyers let it be known that punishment for Green would be handled internally.

“As you know, yesterday, as reported, there was an altercation,” Myers said in an opening statement. “The people that were reported to be in it, that’s accurate. Everybody’s fine. Jordan practiced today; Draymond didn’t. Look, it’s the NBA, it’s professional sports, these things happen. Nobody likes it. We don’t condone it, but it happened. Draymond apologized to the team this morning. Jordan was there in the room, I was there in the room, the team, the coaches, the players, and we heard that. As far as any suspension, punishment, fine, we’re gonna handle that internally.”

Meyers was asked if Green was going to miss any games, including what is remaining of the preseason, and he quickly responded with, “I don’t think so.” Head coach Steve Kerr shared that Green was not at practice on Thursday and wouldn’t be with the team Friday, but should be back on Saturday as they prepare for a preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.

It is not yet confirmed whether this was mandated by the team that Green was not present or if he chose to not attend practice. However, the video footage of the incident has since been leaked by TMZ and was shared via Philip Lewis of the HuffPost.

Now that the video has been released, the Warriors may change their tune when it comes to punishment for Green. If this doesn’t happen inside a practice facility it could be labeled as assault.

If that occurred during game action, we wouldn’t see Green for a very long time as he would be levied a lengthy suspension. Right now, all that has occurred is he has gotten two days off from practice, which any veteran player would likely love to have during training camp. The faster that the Golden State responds the quicker they will be able to move past this and refocus on basketball.
