NBA GMs Vote On Team That Will Be Most Improved

Every offseason in the NBA some teams decide to go all-in on improving the roster to win more games. This offseason, several teams did that with the hopes of becoming playoff contenders and potentially more.

Numerous All-Stars were traded and it should be no surprise that some of the teams that acquired them are among the selections in the annual NBA GM App survey responses for the team that will be most improved during the 2022-23 season. But, they did not receive the most votes.

That distinction went to the LA Clippers, who received 41 percent of the votes as the team that will improve the most. That easily topped the 27 percent that the Chicago Bulls received last year and it is hard to argue against the Clippers as the choice this year.

Los Angeles will be getting Kawhi Leonard and Paul George back in the lineup healthy. They also signed John Wall following his buyout from the Houston Rockets as the Clippers have the deepest roster in the NBA. Tyronn Lue is an excellent head coach as well and they should be among the contenders in the conference after missing the playoff last season.

Tied for second on the list is one of the teams that acquired an All-Star, the Cleveland Cavaliers. They were the surprising winners of the Donovan Mitchell sweepstakes, landing the three-time All-Star from the Utah Jazz. They claimed 17 percent of the votes along with the New Orleans Pelicans.

New Orleans surprised a lot of people when they made a late-season run, earning a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament. They defeated the San Antonio Spurs and Clippers, qualifying for the Western Conference playoffs as the No. 8 seed. They gave the No. 1 seed Phoenix Suns all they could handle in six games and will be even more dangerous this season with Zion Williamson joining Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum.

Coming in at No. 4 on the list is the Minnesota Timberwolves. They acquired Rudy Gobert from the Jazz and believe he is the key to them turning things around defensively, which will help elevate the team to the next level. The Timberwolves are taking a risk going bigger while everyone else transitions to smaller, positionless lineups.

Rounding out the list are the Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings. The Nets are on the list for many of the same reasons that the Clippers are as a contending team looking to bounce back from an underwhelming 2021-22 campaign.

The Kings are looking to snap the longest playoff drought in NBA history which has reached 16 years. Portland revamped its roster this offseason around Damian Lillard and if he is healthy will move up the standings.
