Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
As mentioned, there is a lot of risk involved here for the Grizzlies.
Suddenly, their two most important front-court players are injury prone. If that’s not desirable to them, that’s understandable. At the same time, they’d have a limitless ceiling following this deal.
Furthermore, Jackson Jr. and Porter Jr. make for a perfect pairing. Porter Jr. is a somewhat weak defender, but he’s one of the best shooting big/wings in the NBA. By contrast, Jackson Jr. can stretch the floor, but his shot is fairly inconsistent. In other words, they each cover for each other’s strengths.
Of course, everything the Grizzlies do comes back to Ja Morant. Luckily, Porter Jr.’s floor spacing would be a perfect compliment for him as well. He’d open up previously unseen driving and passing lanes for the dynamic playmaker.
