That said, if the Grizzlies don’t have the stomach for this risk, that would be understandable. After all, they’re already quite familiar with injury concerns. 

When healthy, Jaren Jackson Jr. has looked the part of a future star for this team. He’s a big who stretches the floor, but more importantly, he’s a bonafide defensive anchor. His ability to protect the rim and survive on the perimeter gives him a rare and invaluable skillset. 

Unfortunately, and to no fault of his own, he’s been unreliable. Jackson Jr. has been a staple on the Grizzlies’ injury list. Moreover, he’s already slated to miss a large portion of 2022-23 with an injury. 

With that in mind, who knows how the Grizzlies will approach this season? They could justify taking a step backward.

At the same time, there is still plenty of talent on this roster – even without Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies are a playoff candidate.
